L2S058

L2S welcome DYP to the roster! Hailing from Perth, Australia. DYP has a very unique sound that is both deep and uplifting at the same time! Using vocals as rhythmic elements, looping them to draw the listener deeper into his skippy syncopated Future Garage drum patterns. Already with a growing underground fanbase due to early dubplate copies of Every Day finding it’s way to a select few djs, this e.p is sure to impress!
The title track “Every Day” starts things off with its catchy vocal and stunning drop that twists and melds with running syncopated percussion throughout. “Desire” is next with pads that draw the listener into a hypnotic world of clipped and looped vocals, deep bass and bouncy rhythmic percussion that take you to another world. “All You Need” is next, a tougher affair with gritty bass and sharp Future Garage beats. Finally is “Vocall”, sweeping pads and beautifully programmed vocals sit over a droning smooth bassline, completing the ep in style.

Jamie from The Klaxons supports L2S!

  • January 6, 2011 1:45 pm

We were very happy to be told that during The Independent‘s “Peer to Peer: The stars’ albums of the year” for 2010 Jamie Reynolds from the Klaxons chose L2S!

Quote:

Jamie Reynolds, Klaxons

The 420 Lockdown, Whistla

I’ve been most excited this year by the work of a record label called L2S, which was founded by a DJ and producer called Whistla. They’ve coined the term “future garage” to describe their new and interesting take on UK garage music. Not many people know this but I’m a secret garage boy; Southampton garage music is in my blood. The label has released tons of singles and EPs this year but my top three would be “Love Rhythm” by Sentinels, which blends UK garage and old-school rave; “Tokyopop” by Submerse, which mixes UK garage with Japanese pop music and finally, “The 420 Lockdown” by Whistla himself.

Whistla :: Etymology Of Maureen E.P

Rain Hits The Sun // Larry // Bob // Retrace

L2S039

Whistla’s latest E.P “Etymology of Maureen E.P” is a voyage back to the very beginnings of the Future Garage movement. With interest in Future Garage growing at a rapid rate we thought it was time to show how the scene got started by releasing a selection of Whistla tracks that were at the very heart of the birth of Future Garage. The ep starts off with “Rain Hits The Sun” (written in 2007) and originally signed to Ringo Records (but the release never came to fruition) this track shows the beginnings of the vocal chopping and massive bass that we have come to expect from Whistla productions. 2nd is “Larry” the first of two “normal name tracks” this was a huge anthem in 2007 for forward thinking garage heads, originally scheduled for a release on Clandestine Cultivations, this is a 2steppy bass and melody to make ukg hearts melt. 3rd is the psychedelic garage anthem “Bob” (originally written in 2007), constantly gaining fans this track was the birthplace of the psychedelic garage scene, with mad switches and chops this will blow your mind. Fourth and finally (and the oldest track on the ep being written in 2006) is “Retrace” a track first aired at the legendary Redstar Nightclub in Camberwell, big bass and organs mixed with smooth 2step grooves, deep yet still perfect for the dancefloor.
