Stories From The White Isle // Downer // Eden // Island Mentality

L2S069

London based producer M2J returns to L2S with other E.P chock full of deep sub basslines, psychedelic melodies and smooth breaks and beats!
Title track “Stories From The White Isle” starts the proceedings with deep rolling bass and a laid back rolling 2 step rhythm, with spacey beeps creating a dense atmosphere and ominous tone. Next is DJ favourite “Downer” already receiving support from the likes of Whistla and Submerse this is a heavy dancefloor destroyer with M2J’s laid back yet tough drums and a bassline that will literally blow up lesser soundsystems! “Eden” follows with a more breakbeat style beat and ravey atmospheric melodies accompanied by a bassline that twists and turns at every opportunity, add to that a sick-as-you-like half step breakdown and this is sure to be a crowd favourite. Finally is “Island Mentality”, going deep and dark M2J drops a sample filled track with a skewed rhythm and down low bassline that perfectly rounds off the ep.

Next is “Mind & Matter”, truly something different from the Romford production duo. This track loops an awesome housey vocal that creates a truly hypnotic effect, with a great stuttery beat, lush pads and seriously low bassline producing a track that could fit in Garage, Dubstep or House sets with ease! Finally is “Nocturnal”, featuring DMC winner DJ Cable, with huge support from Future Garage fans since the first time Whistla dropped it on his radio show, this is a deep and dark rolling ambient garage track that really is a crowd favourite, and joy to mix.

L2S051

The legend Scott Garcia (famous for his UKG anthem “It’s A London Thing”) joins L2S with a selection of tracks that will have the crowd jumping for rewinds!
First up is a collaboration with vocalist Jay Harvey “U Could Be.” Harvey’s catchy vocals are juxtaposed against a rolling grimey future garage beat with classic brass sounds and deep down low bass – a serious crossover track that will appeal to old heads as well as new! Next is “F.U.T.U.R.E G.A.R.A.G.E” already an underground smasher and sure to become an outright classic. This crowd favorite is straight up Future Garage, with a robot voice spelling it out plainly, rolling bass and a beat to make the dance floor pump! 3rd is “Want 2 Be”, perhaps the most experimental of them all, this track is truly “out there” and one to make the reach of this release seem endless! A catchy vocal that is somehow ethereal yet forceful, bass to make the floor shake and beats crisper than a packet of Walkers! Finally are 2 dub mixes of the vocal tracks (for the djs who like it “dubbed”) “Want 2 Be Cutztramental Mix” and “U Could Be Instrumental Mix”.
It’s a Future Thing!

Whistla :: Etymology Of Maureen E.P

Rain Hits The Sun // Larry // Bob // Retrace

L2S039

Whistla’s latest E.P “Etymology of Maureen E.P” is a voyage back to the very beginnings of the Future Garage movement. With interest in Future Garage growing at a rapid rate we thought it was time to show how the scene got started by releasing a selection of Whistla tracks that were at the very heart of the birth of Future Garage. The ep starts off with “Rain Hits The Sun” (written in 2007) and originally signed to Ringo Records (but the release never came to fruition) this track shows the beginnings of the vocal chopping and massive bass that we have come to expect from Whistla productions. 2nd is “Larry” the first of two “normal name tracks” this was a huge anthem in 2007 for forward thinking garage heads, originally scheduled for a release on Clandestine Cultivations, this is a 2steppy bass and melody to make ukg hearts melt. 3rd is the psychedelic garage anthem “Bob” (originally written in 2007), constantly gaining fans this track was the birthplace of the psychedelic garage scene, with mad switches and chops this will blow your mind. Fourth and finally (and the oldest track on the ep being written in 2006) is “Retrace” a track first aired at the legendary Redstar Nightclub in Camberwell, big bass and organs mixed with smooth 2step grooves, deep yet still perfect for the dancefloor.
